Rouen vs Caen
LE PETIT-QUEVILLY, France (Interstat) — Rouen and Caen played to a 1-1 draw in a tense National 1 match on Friday afternoon at Stade Robert Diochon, a result that extended a streak of stalemates between the regional rivals.
The match, which saw a late red card and five cautions, played out closely to the statistical projection, which had favored the hosts. The shared points did little to alter the mid-table positioning of either side in France’s third division.
Caen’s substitute, Ronny Labonne, opened the scoring in the 28th minute, finishing a chance to give the visitors an early advantage. The goal marked a bright spot for a Caen side that has struggled for wins this campaign, now with only five in 27 National 1 matches.
Rouen found its equalizer before the hour mark. Midfielder Emric Goumot, who was later booked, provided the assist for Kenny Rocha to score in the 55th minute, leveling the match. Goumot’s yellow card came in the 47th minute, part of a flurry of cautions that included Maxime Etuin of Caen in the 51st and the goalscorer Labonne in the 64th.
The game’s complexion shifted dramatically in the final moments. In the 90th minute, Caen’s Josué Kimboma was sent off with a red card, forcing his team to finish the match with 10 men. The dismissal sparked a fractious close, with two more yellow cards issued in second-half stoppage time to Rouen’s Rocha and Valentin Fuss.
The result continues a recent trend in the fixture. The teams have now drawn their last three head-to-head meetings, including a 0-0 result on Jan. 23 and a 1-1 draw last Oct. 21. Overall this National 1 season, Rouen’s record moves to 17 wins, 15 losses and 17 draws, while Caen sits at five wins, seven losses and 15 draws.
Both teams face quick turnarounds. Rouen is scheduled to play again later Friday against FC Sochaux-Montbeliard, while Caen is set to host C Chartres U19 in a National 3 contest on Saturday.
