MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Interstat) — In a highly unorthodox fixture for the Danish domestic cup, Viborg and Midtjylland played to a 2-2 draw on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, in a match contested at the neutral Estadio Campeón del Siglo.

The game, part of the DEN: DBU Pokalen, saw Viborg rally from an early two-goal deficit to secure the draw against their Danish Superliga rivals.

The scoring opened early, with Midtjylland’s Juan De los Santos finding the net in the 10th minute. The visiting side doubled their lead in the 37th minute on a goal from Gonzalo Carneiro Méndez, putting Viborg in a significant first-half hole.

Viborg’s comeback began just before halftime. Midfielder Mads Søndergaard Clausen, who had entered the match as a 26th-minute substitute, scored in the 45+5 minute of first-half stoppage time to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The equalizer came swiftly after the restart. Defender Nicolas Sandro Bürgy, a native of Bern, Switzerland, scored in the 53rd minute to level the match at 2-2.

Midtjylland’s Gustav Tang Isaksen, himself a second-half substitute, responded just one minute later, scoring in the 54th minute to restore a 3-2 lead for his team.

Viborg was not finished, however. Ibrahim Muhammad Sa’id, another impactful substitute who entered the game alongside Clausen in the 26th minute, scored the final goal of the match in the 64th minute to secure the 3-3 draw.

The match’s only disciplinary action was a yellow card issued to Midtjylland’s Mats Kristoffer Olsson in the 38th minute.

The result leaves both teams with identical records in the DBU Pokalen this season. Viborg now stands at one win and one draw, while Midtjylland sits at one loss and one draw. Their overall records across all competitions also mirror this, with Viborg at one win and one draw and Midtjylland at one loss and one draw.

The final score defied the pre-match projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 2-0 victory for Viborg. The same outlet’s ELO system had given Viborg a 67.00 percent probability of winning the contest.
