Cobán Imperial vs Achuapa
COBÁN, Guatemala (Interstat) — Cobán Imperial will look to capitalize on home advantage and recent form when it hosts struggling Achuapa in a Liga Nacional Week 3 clash on Sunday at Estadio Verapaz Jose Angel Rossi.
The matchup arrives with both teams on divergent trajectories. Cobán Imperial (2-3-2, 9 points) is buoyed by a resilient 1-1 away draw against powerhouse Comunicaciones on Saturday. That result followed a confident 2-0 home victory over the same opponent just a week prior. Achuapa (2-4-2, 8 points), meanwhile, is mired in a slump, coming off a 1-0 midweek loss to Mixco. That defeat extended its winless streak to three matches.
Recent head-to-head history offers a mixed ledger. Just three weeks ago, on March 1, Cobán Imperial secured a 1-0 victory at Achuapa. The teams played to a 2-2 draw last August, with Achuapa claiming a 2-1 home win last October.
Statistical projections present a conflict. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 1-1 draw. However, its ELO rating system heavily favors the hosts, giving Cobán Imperial an 80.1% probability to win.
Achuapa’s defense has been a persistent concern, conceding 11 goals in its last five outings. Its attack has also sputtered, failing to score in three of its last four matches. Cobán Imperial has shown greater consistency, losing only once in its last five games across all competitions.
The setting at the storied Estadio Verapaz should provide a significant boost for the hosts. Achuapa will seek to rediscover its early-season form, which included a road win at Antigua GFC and a draw with Municipal, to halt its slide down the table.
Following this contest, Cobán Imperial prepares for a challenging stretch with road matches at Xelajú and Municipal in early April. Achuapa’s schedule does not ease, with a visit from Municipal slated for April 2.
Kickoff is set for Sunday afternoon in the Alta Verapaz capital.
