Necaxa vs Pachuca
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico (Interstat) — In a chaotic Liga MX match that defied pregame projections, Pachuca rallied from a two-goal deficit with four unanswered scores to defeat Necaxa 4-2 on Saturday at Estadio Victoria.
The match, part of Week 5 of the league’s Apertura campaign, was a tale of two halves. Necaxa, the home side, controlled the early proceedings and built a surprising lead. Bryan Garnica opened the scoring in the 34th minute, finishing a play for the hosts. Just after halftime, Argentine forward Milton Giménez doubled the advantage in the 48th minute, seemingly putting Necaxa in command.
However, the match was marred by intense physicality and poor discipline, particularly from Necaxa. The home side received six yellow cards, including one to goalscorer Garnica in the 26th minute and another to Giménez in the 40th. Pachuca was shown three yellows of its own, with Jahaziel Marchand booked in the 19th minute.
The tide turned decisively in Pachuca’s favor following Giménez’s goal. The visitors mounted a relentless offensive push, capitalizing on what appeared to be a fatigued and disorganized Necaxa defense. Pachuca scored four times in a stunning 25-minute span to completely reverse the match.
The victory improves Pachuca’s Liga MX record to 12 wins, nine losses and seven draws this season. The loss leaves Necaxa with a record of four wins, 16 losses and nine draws, continuing a difficult campaign.
The result contradicted statistical forecasts. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw, and its ELO rating system had given Necaxa a slight 51 percent probability to win.
The teams had met recently, with Pachuca earning a 2-1 victory on March 3. This result extends Pachuca’s recent dominance in the fixture.
Pachuca’s next match is against Cruz Azul on April 11. Necaxa will look to rebound when it faces Queretaro, also on April 11.
