LEON, Mexico (Interstat) — Leon delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over Toluca in a Liga MX Week 5 match Saturday at Estadio León, a result that defied pregame projections.

The home side built a decisive lead before Toluca’s Daniel Álvarez López scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute shortly after entering as a substitute. The match was contentious, featuring eight yellow cards and a red card shown to Leon’s Fidel Ambríz González in the 52nd minute.

The win provides a bright spot for Leon in a difficult season. Toluca, near the top of the table, saw its strong form halted decisively. The teams will meet again in league play on April 25.
