MONTPELLIER, France (Interstat) — Florian Tardieu scored in the 12th minute and Troyes held on for a 1-0 victory over Montpellier on Sunday in the Ligue 1 season opener at Stade de la Mosson.

Tardieu’s goal, assisted by Stefano Fiore, was the only score. Troyes improved to 1-0 in league play and 24-10-11 overall across all competitions. Montpellier fell to 0-1 in Ligue 1 and 13-13-13 overall.

Montpellier created several opportunities but could not finish. Midfielder Téji Tedy Savanier was named the home team’s top star. The loss extended Montpellier’s recent difficulties against Troyes, who also earned a 2-2 draw in their last meeting on April 4.

Troyes’ defense held firm, with goalkeeper preserving the clean sheet in the opening match. Montpellier next plays at Red Star on May 9. Troyes faces Stade Lavallois Mayenne FC on May 2.
