Montpellier vs Troyes

French Ligue 1 Season Opens Sunday With Montpellier Hosting Troyes

MONTPELLIER, France (Interstat) — Montpellier opens its French Ligue 1 season Sunday against visiting Troyes at Stade de la Mosson, with both clubs looking to build on recent momentum.

Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Week 1 of the French top flight.

The most recent meeting between the clubs ended in a 2-2 draw on April 4 in Troyes. Montpellier will seek to avenge a 1-0 home loss to Troyes on Aug. 23, 2025, the last time these sides played at Stade de la Mosson.

Montpellier enters the season opener after a 2-0 victory Friday against Amiens AC U19. However, the club’s form has been uneven in recent matches, including a 4-1 loss to Lyon on April 18 and two consecutive scoreless draws against FC Annecy and Pau.

Troyes arrives Sunday following a 3-0 win Saturday over Saint-Etienne II. The visitors have shown attacking flair, scoring two or more goals in six of their last eight matches, but also exhibited inconsistency with losses to Torcy-Paris and Rodez last month.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw. However, Interstat’s ELO system gives Montpellier a 69.90 percent win probability, suggesting the home side holds a significant statistical advantage despite the simulation’s balanced scoreline.

Montpellier’s next match after Sunday is a road game at Red Star on May 9. Troyes returns to action May 2, hosting Stade Lavallois Mayenne FC in Ligue 2 play.
