Pyunik vs Noah

YEREVAN, Armenia (Interstat) — Hovhannes Harutyunyan scored twice, including a crucial stoppage-time equalizer just before halftime, to lead Pyunik to a 2-1 comeback victory over Noah in an Armenian Premier League match on Saturday.

The match, a Week 17 fixture played at the Junior Sport Stadium, saw the home side overturn an early deficit to secure three points and solidify their position atop the domestic table.

Noah stunned the home crowd early, finding the net in just the 3rd minute. Attacker Ilias Alhaft, a native of Rotterdam, Netherlands, finished a swift move to give the visitors an immediate advantage. Noah managed the game for much of the first half, but the momentum shifted dramatically in the dying moments of the opening period.

In the first minute of added time before halftime, Pyunik midfielder Hovhannes Harutyunyan leveled the score at 1-1. The goal, coming just before the break, provided a critical psychological boost for the hosts.

Pyunik carried that energy directly into the second half. Just two minutes after the restart, in the 47th minute, attacker Vagner Gonçalves Nogueira de Souza of Alegre, France, put the home side ahead. Harutyunyan then sealed the victory with his second goal of the match in the 59th minute, completing the turnaround.

The match was a physical contest, with three yellow cards issued in a span of 16 minutes late in the first half. Noah’s Edgar Movsesyan was booked in the 27th minute, followed by Pyunik’s Yusuf Otubanjo in the 42nd minute and Noah’s Sergey Muradyan in the 43rd minute.

The result marked a reversal of fortune from the teams’ most recent meeting just nine days prior, on March 5, when Noah secured a 2-1 away win over Pyunik. With this victory, Pyunik improved its Premier League record to 10 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws, maintaining a strong lead in the competition. Noah’s league record moved to 6 wins, 4 losses and 5 draws.

The outcome defied the pre-match projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had predicted a 1-1 draw. However, it aligned with the same service’s ELO rating system, which gave Pyunik a 91.10 percent probability to win.

Pyunik’s next match is a quick turnaround, as they are scheduled to host Alashkert on Sunday. Noah faces a busy schedule, traveling to face Shirak in league play on Monday before a home match against West Armenia on Wednesday. The two rivals are slated to meet again on May 3, when Pyunik will visit Noah.
