Okapi vs. Willebroek

WILLEBROEK, Belgium (Interstat) — The BNXT League’s regular season winds down Sunday when the Willebroek Kangoeroes host the Okapi Aalstar at Sporthal De Schalk. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. local time.

Okapi (25-8) enters the matchup with the league’s second-best record, riding a four-game winning streak that includes a 93-84 victory over Willebroek on Friday. The Aalstar offense has averaged 108 points over its past five games, fueled by a balanced attack led by shooting guard Niels Van Den Eynde, power forward Eddie Colbert and small forward Siebe Ledegen. Van Den Eynde posted a team-high in the May 15 meeting, while Colbert and Ledegen each contributed double figures.

Willebroek (19-16-1) sits in the middle of the standings and is looking to snap a two-game losing skid. The Kangoeroes dropped their most recent contest 93-84 at Okapi on Friday, despite strong performances from power forward Tobi Ewuosho, shooting guard Augustas Peciukevicius and center Zaba Bangala. Ewuosho has been Willebroek’s most consistent scorer of late, averaging 18 points over the last three games.

The season series is split after three meetings. Okapi won the first encounter 93-76 on Dec. 6, 2025, in Aalstar. Willebroek answered with a 94-74 home victory on April 4, and Okapi reclaimed the edge with Friday’s win. The Kangoeroes have struggled to contain Okapi’s perimeter game; the Aalstar have shot 48% from beyond the arc in the two wins.

Both teams are coming off contrasting results earlier in May. Okapi routed Aris Leeuwarden 118-90 on May 9 and posted wins over Rotterdam (102-92) and ZZ Leiden (97-85) before the Willebroek game. Willebroek, meanwhile, defeated Rotterdam 97-73 on May 9 and edged Brussels 57-56 on May 6, but lost to Den Helder 87-80 on May 2.

Okapi’s depth has been a key factor all season: nine different players have scored in double figures in at least one game. Willebroek relies heavily on its frontcourt, with Bangala pulling down 10.5 rebounds per game over the past month.

Sunday’s game carries implications for playoff seeding. Okapi trails league leader Limburg by one game, while Willebroek is battling for a top-six spot. A win for the Kangoeroes would even the season series and boost their confidence heading into the postseason.
