Pays de Fougeres vs. Boulogne

BOULOGNE-SUR-MER, France (Interstat) — Boulogne hosts Pays de Fougeres on Friday in a French NM1 matchup that carries playoff implications, with the home team looking to solidify its winning record while the visitors aim to climb above .500.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. at Salle Damremont. Boulogne enters with a 22-17 record across all competitions, while Pays de Fougeres sits at 20-21.

The teams met just over a month ago, April 4, when Boulogne defeated Pays de Fougeres 87-79 on the road. That result extended Boulogne’s head-to-head momentum, though Pays de Fougeres will seek redemption on Friday.

Pays de Fougeres is coming off a 94-82 win over Loon Plage on Tuesday, snapping a five-game losing streak. The victory was powered by guard Killian Incredule, who logged 34 minutes and posted 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Incredule, a key playmaker, has been consistent despite the team’s struggles, averaging 14.5 points over his last six games. His all-around production will be critical against a Boulogne defense that has allowed 76.2 points per game over its past five outings.

Boulogne also won Tuesday, edging Toulouse Basket 88-84. Forward Alex Sobel recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes. Sobel, who also added a block, has been a force inside, tallying at least 10 points in four of his last five games. His rebounding will be vital against a Fougeres frontcourt that grabbed 38 boards in the win over Loon Plage.

Boulogne’s recent form has been uneven: after winning three of four, it dropped two straight before Tuesday’s victory. The team has relied on balanced scoring, with Jaylen Sebree and Jiyann Hyacinthe each contributing 16 points in the Toulouse win. However, turnovers have been an issue; Boulogne gave up 14 against Toulouse.

Pays de Fougeres’ losing streak before Tuesday included narrow defeats: a 79-99 loss at Mulhouse, a 67-80 home loss to Berck Rang, and a 76-78 defeat at Orchies. The team’s offense has been inconsistent, scoring 55 points in a loss at Fos Provence on April 10. But Tuesday’s 94-point outburst showed its potential when Incredule and Kevin Bichard (22 points, three rebounds, three assists) are in sync.

Defensively, Pays de Fougeres has struggled, allowing 79 or more points in four of its last six games. Boulogne’s offense, averaging 78.4 points over its past five, could exploit that.

Friday’s game marks the second of three meetings this season. The teams will not meet again until the postseason, if at all. With both clubs jockeying for position in the NM1 standings, expect a physical contest. Sobel’s interior presence against Incredule’s perimeter creation will be the key matchup to watch.
