Missouri State opened the scoring with Obeid’s 35-yard field goal. Boamah then intercepted Jennings and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bears a 10-0 lead. Missouri State’s Locklear connected with Myers for a 15-yard touchdown. Henry Belin IV later found Hipp for an 18-yard score, but SMU’s lead held.
The Mustangs’ defense made key stops in the second half. Atkinson and Booker pressured the quarterback, while White and Davis contributed sacks. Knight and Cooper kept the chains moving for SMU, and Raphael provided balance on the ground. Missouri State’s defense received strong efforts from Lloyd, Ford, Blackmon and O’Neal, but the Bears could not consistently contain Jennings. Dubar’s 76 rushing yards gave Missouri State some momentum, and McDonald’s punting helped with field position. SMU’s passing game proved decisive. The Mustangs also benefited from Jennings’ connection with Knight on third down and Cooper’s ability to win contested catches.
Missouri State stayed competitive behind Locklear’s efficiency and Myers’ touchdown catch. The Bears’ defense forced an early turnover and made SMU work for its points. Blackmon’s sack and Mattison’s quarterback hurry were among the few pressures that reached Jennings. Still, SMU’s offensive line gave Jennings enough time to find receivers downfield. The Mustangs scored 34 points despite two missed field goals and an interception.
The game featured several swings. Missouri State’s early takeaway gave it confidence, and the Bears’ defense forced SMU to work for its yards. SMU’s passing attack proved too potent, however, as Jennings repeatedly found open receivers. Knight’s 164 receiving yards and Cooper’s 125 yards gave the Mustangs two reliable targets. Raphael’s 96 rushing yards helped balance the offense and kept Missouri State honest. The Bears received strong individual efforts from Lloyd, Ford, Blackmon and O’Neal, but they could not slow SMU enough in the second half.
SMU’s victory moved the Mustangs to 3-1. Missouri State dropped to 1-3. The Mustangs’ offense finished with a balanced effort, while the Bears showed resilience behind Locklear and Myers. Dubar’s 76 rushing yards provided a spark for Missouri State, and McDonald’s punting helped flip field position at times. SMU finished with 441 passing yards and pressure on the quarterback throughout.
