Mississippi Valley State at Prairie View

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Interstat) — The Prairie View Panthers, riding high from a dominant victory, are heavily favored when they host the struggling Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Saturday at Panther Stadium.

Prairie View (8-3) enters the contest following a 56-9 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Saturday. The Panthers’ offense was explosive, with quarterback Cameron Peters completing 20 of 24 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Chase Bingmon rushed for 135 yards and two scores.

The Panthers have won seven of their last nine games, with their only losses in that stretch a three-point defeat to Alabama State and a non-conference road loss to Rice. Their defense has been a key factor, holding opponents to single digits in three of their last five outings.

Conversely, Mississippi Valley State (1-9) is mired in a five-game losing streak and is coming off a 41-3 home loss to Alabama State. The Delta Devils’ offense has sputtered, failing to score more than 10 points in four of their last five contests. In the loss to Alabama State, quarterback Brandon Nunez passed for 109 yards and rushed for seven more, but the team managed only a field goal.

Mississippi Valley State’s sole win this season was a 49-0 victory over Lincoln (California) on Oct. 18. Since then, they have been outscored 178-50.

According to a projection from Interstat, the Panthers are expected to continue their winning ways with a 42-22 victory.

Kickoff is set for Saturday in Prairie View.
