Oregon Dominates Minnesota in Lopsided Victory

EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — In a commanding display of offensive efficiency and defensive control, the Oregon Ducks methodically dispatched the Minnesota Golden Gophers 42 to 13 on a cool Friday evening at a sold-out Autzen Stadium.

A crowd of 58,830 watched as Oregon quarterback Dante Moore orchestrated a near-flawless performance, completing 27 of 30 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns, setting the tone for a lopsided contest that was effectively decided by halftime.

The Ducks established their dominance early, scoring on their first two possessions. The opening drive was a surgical 75-yard march capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from Jordon Davison. After forcing a quick Minnesota punt, Oregon needed just five plays to find the end zone again, this time on a explosive 39-yard scoring run by Davison, giving the home team a 14 to 0 lead with over seven minutes still remaining in the first quarter.

Minnesota, struggling to find any offensive rhythm against a swarming Oregon defense, managed to get on the board in the second quarter with a 46-yard field goal from B. Denaburg. The drive was set up by a fumble recovery from Karter Menz, but the Golden Gophers’ offense stalled deep in Oregon territory, a recurring theme throughout the night.

The Ducks responded immediately, extinguishing any hope of a Minnesota rally with a swift, five-play, 80-yard drive. Noah Whittington broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 21 to 3.

The Golden Gophers added another Denaburg field goal, this time from 26 yards, just before halftime after a long drive that consumed over nine minutes but yielded only three points. Oregon, however, delivered a decisive blow before the break. Moore led a masterful two-minute drill, moving the Ducks 75 yards in just over a minute. He finished the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kenyon Sadiq with 37 seconds left, sending the Ducks into the locker room with a commanding 28 to 6 advantage.

Minnesota showed a brief spark to open the second half, engineering a 15-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Quarterback Drake Lindsey connected with Javon Tracy on a 10-yard scoring pass to cut the deficit to 28 to 13. But that was the high-water mark for the visitors.

Oregon answered with another long, methodical scoring drive of their own. Moore methodically moved the Ducks 80 yards in 11 plays, culminating in a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah McClellan to re-establish a 35 to 13 lead late in the third quarter.

The Ducks closed the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 70-yard drive that ended with a 12-yard touchdown run by J. Harris, providing the final margin of 42 to 13.

Moore’s primary targets were Sadiq, who hauled in eight passes for 96 yards and a touchdown, and Jamari Johnson, who caught four passes for 57 yards. The Oregon rushing attack was balanced and potent, with Whittington gaining 72 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries, while Davison added 57 yards and two scores on seven attempts.

Defensively, the Ducks were led by Bryce Boettcher with six tackles, while Teitum Tuioti and Brandon Finney Jr. each recorded a sack. The unit held Minnesota’s offense in check all night, limiting Lindsey to 134 passing yards and one touchdown.

For the Golden Gophers, running back Darius Taylor was a bright spot, rushing for 57 yards and adding 40 receiving yards. Defensively, John Nestor recorded a game-high eight tackles.

With the victory, Oregon improves its record to 9-1 on the season and remains in contention for a conference championship. The Ducks will host Southern California next Saturday. Minnesota falls to 6-4 and will travel to face Northwestern in its next contest.
