Lindenwood at Western Illinois
MACOMB, Ill. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build on rare victories will meet Saturday when the Lindenwood Lions visit the Western Illinois Leathernecks at Hanson Field.
The Lions (4-5) are coming off their most impressive performance of the season, a 35-13 road win over Tennessee State last Saturday. The Leathernecks (2-7) last took the field on Oct. 25, earning a narrow 17-16 road win at Tennessee State.
Despite Lindenwood’s superior record, Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair with Western Illinois edging the Lions 38-37. Both defenses have struggled at times this season, with Lindenwood allowing 52 points to Tennessee Tech and Western Illinois surrendering 66 points in a loss to the same opponent.
Lindenwood’s offense will look to quarterback Cason Carswell, who threw for a touchdown and ran for 13 yards in the win over Tennessee State. He will be supported by running back Markell Holman.
Western Illinois will aim to capitalize on its home field advantage as it seeks its first winning streak of the season. The Leathernecks’ offense found success in their last outing, a 51-point performance against Valparaiso in September, but consistency has been an issue.
Saturday’s contest is the first of two final home games for Western Illinois. Lindenwood continues its road swing before returning home next week.
