Holy Cross at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Interstat) — The Lehigh Mountain Hawks continued their dominant, undefeated march through the 2025 season on Saturday, overwhelming the Holy Cross Crusaders 38-3 in a Patriot League matchup at Goodman Stadium.

Lehigh, now 10-0, showcased a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense that held Holy Cross to a single field goal. The loss drops Holy Cross to 1-9 on the year.

The Mountain Hawks set the tone early. After forcing a Holy Cross punt on the opening drive, Lehigh quarterback Hayden Johnson engineered a methodical scoring drive. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania, native capped it with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Mason Humphrey, giving Lehigh a 7-0 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Holy Cross found a brief response in the second quarter. Quarterback Dominic Campanile of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, led the Crusaders on their most sustained drive of the game, moving the ball from their own 23-yard line down to the Lehigh 14. The drive stalled there, and Luis Palenzuela connected on a 32-yard field goal to put Holy Cross on the board and cut the deficit to 7-3.

Any momentum for the visitors was short-lived. Lehigh answered emphatically on their ensuing possession, which was dominated by the ground game. Running back Luke Yoder took over, rushing for 74 yards on the drive, including a 42-yard touchdown burst up the middle to extend the Mountain Hawks’ lead to 14-3 heading into halftime.

The third quarter belonged entirely to Lehigh, as they put the game out of reach with 17 points. Connor Poole opened the second-half scoring with a 32-yard field goal. On the next Lehigh drive, Johnson found receiver Geoffrey Jamiel for a 45-yard touchdown strike, pushing the lead to 24-3.

The Mountain Hawks’ ground attack sealed the victory later in the quarter. Yoder, who finished with a stellar 142 yards on 17 carries, plunged into the end zone from one yard out for his second touchdown of the day, making the score 31-3.

Johnson added one more touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, a 11-yard connection with Jamiel for the receiver’s second score of the contest. Johnson ended the day 8 of 18 for 174 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 59 yards on the ground.

For Holy Cross, the offensive struggles were pronounced. Campanile completed 19 of 34 passes for 195 yards but was sacked multiple times and unable to generate a touchdown drive. The Crusaders’ rushing attack managed only 43 net yards against a relentless Lehigh defense.

The result defied the pregame spread, which had Holy Cross as a 20.5-point underdog, and the combined score of 41 points fell under the over/under line of 45.5. Lehigh’s performance also surpassed the projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 28-23 Mountain Hawks win.

Lehigh will look to maintain its perfect record next Saturday when it travels to face Colgate. Holy Cross will seek to end its losing streak on the road at Bucknell.
