Princeton at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. (Interstat) — Grayson Saunier threw for one touchdown and ran for another, and the Dartmouth defense forced two critical first-half interceptions to hold off a late Princeton rally for a 20-17 victory on Saturday at Memorial Field.

The Big Green improved to 6-2 overall, while the Tigers fell to 3-5.

Dartmouth built a 20-3 lead through three quarters before withstanding a frantic fourth-quarter comeback attempt by Princeton. The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the final period, including a 5-yard scramble by quarterback Kai Colón with 33 seconds remaining. Colón then ran in the two-point conversion to pull Princeton within three points.

Dartmouth recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock to secure the win.

The Big Green set the tone early. On Princeton’s opening drive, Colón’s pass was intercepted by Patrick Campbell, who returned it 27 yards to the Princeton 35. The turnover led to a 1-yard touchdown run by Saunier.

Dartmouth extended its lead in the second quarter with a methodical drive capped by a 3-yard touchdown run from D.J. Crowther, making the score 14-0.

Princeton got on the board just before halftime with a 36-yard field goal from Esteban Nunez Perez, but the Tigers squandered a chance for more after a drive stalled deep in Dartmouth territory following their second interception of the half, this one by safety Harrison Keith.

Dartmouth’s final points came on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Saunier to tight end Chris Corbo midway through the third quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score at 20-3.

Princeton’s comeback began early in the fourth quarter when Christian Lynch punched in a 2-yard touchdown run. The Tigers’ two-point try also failed.

After forcing a Dartmouth punt, Princeton drove for the game’s final score, a scramble by Colón that culminated the late rally.

Colón finished 29 of 46 for 266 yards and one interception, adding 30 rushing yards and the late touchdown. Ethan Clark was a workhorse for the Tigers, rushing for 69 yards and catching six passes for 52 yards. Josh Robinson had eight receptions for 70 yards.

For Dartmouth, Saunier was efficient, completing 12 of 15 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown while adding 25 yards and a score on the ground. Crowther anchored the ground game with 96 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Corbo was the leading receiver with four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.

The game’s final score of 37 points fell under the pregame over/under line of 49.5. Princeton had been a 10.5-point underdog.

Dartmouth will host Cornell next Saturday, while Princeton returns home to face Yale.
