Furman at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Chattanooga Mocs host the Furman Paladins at Finley Stadium.

Both teams enter the Nov. 8 contest looking to halt a slide. Furman (5-4) is coming off a 52-28 home loss to Mercer, a game in which its defense struggled. The Paladins had previously won two of their last three, including a 24-14 victory over The Citadel.

Chattanooga (4-5) saw its two-game winning streak snapped in a 35-28 loss to Western Carolina. The Mocs had found offensive momentum in wins over Samford and East Tennessee State prior to the setback.

The game features a clash of offensive styles. Furman will likely lean on its running game, led by CJ Nettles, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown last week. Chattanooga’s attack is powered by quarterback Camden Orth, who threw for 241 yards and rushed for 50 more in the loss to Western Carolina.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Chattanooga holds a slight edge, projected to win 28-22. The result could hinge on which team’s defense can better contain the opposing offense.

Both teams have two games remaining on their schedule. Furman will host Virginia Military Institute next week before a tough road test at Clemson. Chattanooga hits the road for its final two contests, facing Mercer and Wofford.
