Texas A&M at Missouri

BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — Marcel Reed threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns and Rueben Owens II rushed for 102 yards and two scores as Texas A&M remained undefeated, overpowering Missouri 38-17 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Aggies, now 9-0, defied pregame projections that heavily favored the Tigers, who were 6.5-point favorites and given a 60.6% chance to win by statistical models. Instead, Texas A&M controlled the game from the outset before an announced crowd of 57,321.

Missouri fell to 6-3 with the loss.

Texas A&M’s offense methodically built its lead, scoring a touchdown in each of the first two quarters for a 14-0 halftime advantage. The Aggies broke the game open in the third quarter, adding a touchdown and a field goal to extend their lead to 24-0.

Missouri finally got on the board late in the third quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run, but could not mount a sustained comeback. The Tigers added a field goal and a 45-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but by then the outcome was no longer in doubt. Texas A&M matched Missouri’s fourth-quarter output with two touchdowns of its own to seal the victory.

Reed, the Aggies’ quarterback from Nashville, Tennessee, was efficient, completing 20 of 29 passes. His favorite target was KC Concepcion, who caught a 48-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and finished with four receptions for 84 yards. Owens, the workhorse running back from El Campo, Texas, sealed the game with a 57-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Missouri’s offense struggled mightily, particularly through the air. Quarterback Matt Zollers completed just 7 of 22 passes for 77 yards and was sacked twice by an aggressive Aggies defense. Linebackers Cashius Howell and Daymion Sanford each recorded a sack for Texas A&M.

The Tigers’ defense was led by Triston Newson, who recorded 11 tackles, and Chris McClellan, who had seven. Despite the high tackle numbers, the unit could not consistently contain the balanced Aggies attack.

Texas A&M looks to continue its perfect season next Saturday when it hosts South Carolina. Missouri will try to rebound at home against Mississippi State.
