Oregon Dominates Rutgers in Lopsided Road Victory

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal of pregame expectations, the Oregon Ducks delivered a dominant, wire-to-wire performance, dismantling the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 56 to 10 on Saturday before a crowd of 53,127 at a rain-soaked SHI Stadium.

The game, which was projected by Interstat’s game simulator to be a narrow 30-29 victory for Rutgers, instead became a showcase for Oregon’s explosive offense and stifling defense. The Ducks improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Scarlet Knights fell to an even 3-3.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, a Detroit native, was nearly flawless, orchestrating an offensive onslaught that saw the Ducks score touchdowns on eight of his first nine full drives. The sophomore signal-caller completed 15 of 20 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns, adding 49 yards on the ground. His precision and command were the catalysts for an offense that seemed unstoppable from the opening whistle.

The Ducks set the tone immediately, marching down the field on their first possession. However, a fumble by receiver Gary Bryant Jr. gave Rutgers an early opportunity. The Scarlet Knights’ offense, stymied by three consecutive incomplete passes from quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, had to settle for a 51-yard field goal from Jai Patel, taking a brief 3-0 lead. It would be Rutgers’ only points until the game’s final minutes.

Oregon’s response was swift and emphatic. On the ensuing drive, running back Noah Whittington broke free for a 68-yard touchdown run, putting the Ducks ahead for good. Moore then found his rhythm, connecting with tight end Kenyon Sadiq for a 30-yard touchdown strike to cap another long drive, giving Oregon a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a 28-point blitz that put the game out of reach. Moore continued his aerial assault, hitting Sadiq again for a 21-yard score, then finding star receiver Dakorien Moore for a 34-yard touchdown. Whittington added his second touchdown of the day on a 28-yard run, and just before halftime, Moore capped his spectacular half with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Whittington, sending the Ducks into the locker room with a commanding 42-3 advantage.

The Oregon defense was equally impressive, rendering the Rutgers offense inert. Kaliakmanis, from Antioch, Illinois, struggled immensely, completing just 8 of 25 passes for 79 yards and throwing one interception before being relieved. The Ducks’ defensive front, led by Ashton Porter and Tionne Gray with five tackles each, consistently pressured the Rutgers backfield, recording multiple sacks and forcing two fumbles. Safety Aaron Flowers of Forney, Texas, secured an interception for the Ducks.

The onslaught continued in the third quarter. Backup running back Jordon Davison ripped off a 67-yard run on the first play of the half, then punched it in from 20 yards out on the next play. Later in the quarter, Dierre Hill Jr. broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 56-3.

With the game firmly in hand, Oregon inserted backup quarterback Brock Thomas of Eugene, Oregon, who completed 3 of 4 passes for 45 yards and added a 15-yard run.

Rutgers finally found the end zone late in the fourth quarter against Oregon’s reserves, with running back Ja’shon Benjamin of Pahokee, Florida, capping a long, grinding drive with a 7-yard touchdown run. Benjamin finished with 69 yards on 18 carries. Defensively, Rutgers was led by linebacker Abram Wright of Jacksonville, Florida, who recorded six tackles, while defensive back Kaj Sanders of Newark, New Jersey, had five.

The lopsided result defied the pregame betting lines, which had installed Rutgers as a 17.5-point favorite. The total score of 66 also went well over the over/under line of 60.5, a figure surpassed by Oregon’s offense alone.

Oregon looks to carry this momentum into a pivotal home contest against Wisconsin next Saturday. Rutgers, meanwhile, must regroup quickly as it hits the road to face Purdue.
