Brown Rallies Past Bryant for 29‑19 Road Victory

OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — In a result that defied pregame projections, the Brown Bears used a dominant second-half surge to defeat the Bryant Bulldogs 29-19 on Friday night at Taft Stadium.

Entering the contest as underdogs according to Interstat’s game simulator and betting markets, the Bears improved their season record to 3-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-5.

The game was a tale of two halves, with Bryant controlling the early momentum before Brown’s offense erupted after halftime. The Bears, who were held scoreless in the first half, exploded for 15 points in the third quarter and added 14 more in the fourth to secure the comeback victory.

Bryant established its ground game early, marching 65 yards on a methodical 11-play drive capped by a 14-yard touchdown run from Elijah Elliott. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the second quarter with another Elliott touchdown, this time a 1-yard plunge to culminate a 16-play, 92-yard drive that consumed over seven minutes of the clock. Brown’s offense, meanwhile, was stymied by a stingy Bryant defense and its own mistakes, including a first-quarter interception by Bulldogs defensive back Dorian Helm.

The complexion of the game shifted dramatically after the break. Brown quarterback James Murphy, who finished the game 29-of-44 for 347 yards and one touchdown, found his rhythm. He connected with Trevor Foley on a 47-yard scoring strike early in the third quarter to put the Bears on the board.

Brown’s defense then forced a quick punt, setting up a 10-play, 71-yard drive that was finished by a 1-yard touchdown run from Matt Childs. A successful two-point conversion pass from Will Currid to Levi Linowes brought the Bears to within four points.

Bryant responded, however, as quarterback Jaden Keefner engineered a 65-yard drive of his own. Keefner found Aldrich Doe for a 16-yard touchdown pass, pushing the Bulldogs’ lead back to 19-12.

Undeterred, the Bears mounted their game-winning rally in the fourth quarter. Childs, who was a workhorse for Brown with 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, scored his second touchdown from a yard out to tie the game. The Bears then took their first lead of the night on a 26-yard touchdown run by Qwentin Brown with just over four minutes remaining, sealing the victory.

While Brown’s offense found its footing in the second half, its defense was instrumental in the comeback. The unit held Bryant’s potent rushing attack in check during critical moments and came up with key stops. Defensive back Elias Archie contributed an interception in the second quarter that halted a promising Bryant drive.

For the Bulldogs, Elliott was the offensive standout, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Keefner completed 16 of 27 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while adding 51 yards on the ground. Zyheem Collick was his top receiver with seven catches for 57 yards.

Brown’s receiving corps was led by Solomon Miller, who caught five passes for 56 yards, while Foley’s lone 47-yard reception was a crucial touchdown. The Bears’ ground game was balanced, with Childs and Qwentin Brown combining for 142 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bears will look to continue their momentum when they host Princeton on Oct. 18. The Bulldogs have a bye next week before traveling to face Rhode Island on Oct. 25.
