Indiana at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — In a stunning upset that reverberated through the college football landscape, the Indiana Hoosiers went into a deafening Autzen Stadium and handed the Oregon Ducks their first loss of the season, securing a 30-20 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The win, in front of 59,625 fans, propelled Indiana to a perfect 5-0 record, while also dropping a previously unbeaten Oregon squad to 5-0.

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound junior from Miami, Florida, orchestrated the victory with a poised and efficient performance. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown, while also using his legs to critical effect, rushing six times for 31 yards to extend drives.

The Hoosiers set the tone early. After forcing a quick Oregon punt, they marched down the field, but the drive stalled, leading to a 42-yard field goal by Nico Radicic to open the scoring. Oregon responded swiftly, however, as quarterback Dante Moore connected with Malik Benson on a 44-yard touchdown strike to tie the game at 7-7.

Indiana answered with a methodical 75-yard drive, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run from Roman Hemby to reclaim a lead they would never relinquish. Hemby was the workhorse for the Hoosiers, carrying the ball 19 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching two passes for 25 yards.

The second quarter was a defensive struggle, with both teams trading field goals. Indiana’s Brendan Franke ended the first half with a remarkable 58-yard field goal as time expired, sending the Hoosiers into the locker room with a 13-10 advantage and critical momentum.

Indiana extended its lead in the third quarter. Mendoza engineered another impressive drive, finding Elijah Sarratt for a 22-yard gain and later connecting with Hemby for another 22 yards to set up Hemby’s second touchdown run from 2 yards out, pushing the lead to 20-13.

Oregon threatened to mount a comeback early in the fourth quarter. With the Hoosiers driving, Mendoza’s pass was intercepted by Oregon defensive back Brandon Finney Jr., who returned it 35 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 23-20 and energizing the home crowd.

Unfazed, Mendoza led Indiana on a decisive 86-yard touchdown drive to seal the game. He completed key passes to Omar Cooper Jr. and Sarratt, culminating in an 8-yard touchdown strike to Sarratt with 6:23 remaining. Sarratt finished as the game’s leading receiver, hauling in eight catches for 121 yards and the crucial score.

The Indiana defense, which harassed Moore all evening, closed the door on any final Oregon hopes. Linebackers Aiden Fisher and Rolijah Hardy each tallied 13 tackles, with Fisher recording 1.5 sacks and Hardy adding one. The unit sacked Moore four times and intercepted him twice, with Isaiah Jones and Louis Moore each coming down with a pick.

Moore, the Ducks’ quarterback from Detroit, Michigan, finished 21 of 34 for 186 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions under constant pressure. Oregon’s ground game was led by Jordon Davison, who rushed for 59 yards on eight carries.

The victory marks a monumental step for an Indiana program that entered the game as a 7.5-point underdog. According to Interstat, the Ducks had a 92.2 percent probability to win, with a projected final score of 39-22 in their favor. Instead, the Hoosiers defied the simulations and the odds, announcing their arrival as a legitimate force.

Indiana returns home to face Michigan State next Saturday, while Oregon travels to face Rutgers.
