Memphis at Florida Atlantic
BOCA RATON, Fla. (Interstat) — An undefeated Memphis team riding a wave of close victories faces a Florida Atlantic squad looking to rebound from a loss when the teams meet Saturday at Flagler Credit Union Stadium.
The Memphis Tigers (4-0) are coming off a dramatic 32-31 win over Arkansas last Saturday. Quarterback Brendon Lewis powered the offense, throwing for 199 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 103 yards and another score. Running back Sutton Smith added 147 rushing yards and a touchdown. Memphis has outscored its opponents by an average of 20 points this season.
The Florida Atlantic Owls (1-2) last played on Sept. 13, falling 38-28 to Florida International. In that game, quarterback Caden Veltkamp threw for 343 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Gemari Sands rushed for 105 yards. The Owls’ lone win was a 56-14 rout of Florida A&M on Sept. 6.
Despite the disparity in records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 33-31 victory for Florida Atlantic. Betting markets have installed the Owls as a 13.5-point pregame favorite, with an over/under of 62.5 points.
The game will be the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Memphis looks to continue its perfect start before hosting Tulsa on Oct. 4. Florida Atlantic aims to even its record before traveling to face Rice on Oct. 4.
