Notre Dame at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — CJ Carr passed for 354 yards and four touchdowns, and Notre Dame erupted for 28 points in the second quarter to run away from Arkansas 56-13 on Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 75,111 at Razorback Stadium.

The Fighting Irish (1-2) dominated from the outset, amassing 560 total yards to secure their first victory of the season and hand the Razorbacks (2-2) a second consecutive loss.

Notre Dame set the tone early, scoring on its first two possessions. Jeremiyah Love capped a 75-yard opening drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. After forcing an Arkansas punt, the Irish needed just seven plays to go 73 yards, with Carr finding Love for a 7-yard scoring pass to take a 14-3 lead late in the first quarter.

The Razorbacks showed a brief sign of life early in the second quarter. A 54-yard run by quarterback Taylen Green set up a 1-yard touchdown plunge by JacQawn McRoy, cutting the deficit to 14-10.

Any momentum for the home team was quickly extinguished by the Notre Dame offense. Carr engineered three touchdown drives in the final eight minutes of the half. He connected with Will Pauling on a 23-yard score, hit Love for a 34-yard touchdown, and, after a crucial fumble recovery by the Irish defense, found Jadarian Price for a 35-yard score as time expired in the half. The late flurry gave Notre Dame a commanding 42-13 lead at the break.

The Irish defense stifled Arkansas throughout the game, sacking Green three times and forcing a key turnover. Green finished 17 of 32 for 207 yards and added 81 yards on the ground, but the Razorbacks’ offense consistently stalled in Notre Dame territory.

Price added a 16-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and backup quarterback Kenny Minchey entered the game in the fourth, orchestrating a drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown run by Aneyas Williams to complete the scoring.

The lopsided result was a surprise based on pregame projections. Arkansas had been installed as a 4.5-point favorite, and Interstat’s game simulator had projected a narrow 26-25 victory for Notre Dame. The total score of 69 points went under the over/under line of 63.5.

For Notre Dame, Love finished with 112 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. Pauling caught three passes for 53 yards and a score, while Malachi Fields led all receivers with 72 yards on three catches.

Defensively, safety Adon Shuler led the Irish with nine tackles and forced a fumble. Boubacar Traore recorded a sack among his four tackles.

Arkansas was led by Mike Washington Jr., who rushed for 63 yards on 15 carries. O’Mega Blake caught six passes for 73 yards. On defense, safety Miguel Mitchell recorded a game-high 12 tackles.

Notre Dame returns home to face Boise State on Oct. 4. Arkansas has a bye week before traveling to face Tennessee on Oct. 11.
