Oregon State vs. Yale

EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — Eric Segura pitched 6 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball and the Oregon State Beavers defeated the Yale Bulldogs 9-2 on Saturday evening at PK Park in a playoff game, improving to 44-13 while Yale fell to 30-15.

Segura struck out 10 batters and allowed only one earned run, a solo home run by Garrett Larsen in the seventh inning that broke up the no-hitter and gave Yale a brief 1-0 lead. The right-hander exited after that inning, having faced the minimum through six frames thanks to two caught stealings and a pickoff. Oregon State’s offense then erupted for six runs in the top of the eighth to take control.

Tyler Inge drove in three runs, including a two-run double in the eighth, and Ethan Porter had three hits and two RBIs. Paul Vazquez added two RBIs and Josh Proctor finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run.

Yale starter Tate Evans worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts but took a no-decision. Larsen, the Bulldogs’ left fielder, went 2-for-4 with the home run and an RBI. Davis Hanson had two hits and an RBI for Yale, which managed only six hits.

The game remained scoreless through four innings as Segura and Evans traded zeros. Segura struck out the side in the first, working around a two-out double by Larsen in the fourth by inducing a groundout. Oregon State broke through in the top of the fifth. Porter singled, advanced on a groundout and a wild pitch, but Evans stranded him at third with a strikeout. The Beavers finally scored in the sixth. Proctor singled, Haight bunted him to second, and after a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Inge reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Proctor when the throw home was late. Talt followed with an RBI single, making it 2-0.

Segura continued to dominate, retiring 10 straight batters from the fourth through the seventh. Larsen ended the no-hit bid with one out in the seventh, driving a 1-0 pitch over the left‑field wall to cut the lead to 2-1. Segura walked off the mound to a standing ovation after allowing the solo homer and a double, then striking out the next batter.

Isaac Yeager relieved Segura and struck out the only batter he faced to escape the seventh. Oregon State’s offense then broke the game open in the eighth. With reliever Teo Spadacci on the mound, Proctor doubled and Josh Hayes pinch‑ran. After a walk and another walk, Inge lined a two‑run double down the right‑field line to score Haight and Hayes. After an intentional walk and a pitching change, Inge walked again with the bases loaded to force in a run, and Porter doubled to left‑center to drive in two more. Vazquez added a sacrifice fly to cap the six‑run inning, making it 8-1.

Yale scored a consolation run in the ninth off reliever AJ Hutcheson. Chris DiPrim doubled, advanced on a groundout and scored on Hanson’s single. Hutcheson then struck out the final batter to end the game.

Segura’s outing was the dominant storyline. He threw 95 pitches, 68 for strikes, and did not allow a hit until Larsen’s homer. Yeager and Hutcheson combined for 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

For Yale, Larsen’s homer was the only extra‑base hit until DiPrim’s double in the ninth. The Bulldogs’ offense struck out 13 times.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Oregon State 8, Yale 7. Interstat’s ELO system gave the Beavers an 85.00 percent probability to win entering the game.
