Tennessee at Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla. (Interstat) — Deiten Lachance hit three home runs, including a go-ahead shot in the seventh inning, to lift Oklahoma to a 12-9 victory over Tennessee on Saturday. The Sooners improved to 32-20, while the Volunteers dropped to 37-19.
Oklahoma seized control in the first inning, scoring six runs on a combination of power and Tennessee defensive mistakes. Lachance opened the scoring with a solo homer to center field. The inning included two Tennessee errors, one on a throwing error by the shortstop and another on a wild pitch, while Dayton Tockey added a bases-loaded walk and later scored on the wild pitch. Jaxon Walk capped the rally with an RBI single, giving Oklahoma a 6-0 lead.
Tennessee answered in the second when Reese Chapman singled and Levi Clark followed with a two-run homer to left center, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Oklahoma responded in the bottom half as Trey Gambill doubled to drive in Lachance, who had tripled, and Dasan Harris singled home Gambill, pushing the lead to 8-2.
The Volunteers chipped away. In the fourth, Chapman tripled and Clark grounded out to bring him home. In the fifth, Tennessee scored three times. Chapman delivered a two-run single through the right side, giving Tennessee an 10-9 lead.
Lachance answered immediately in the bottom of the seventh, hitting his third homer of the game, this one to right center, to tie the score at 10-10. Tockey added a solo homer in the eighth to right center for a 11-10 Oklahoma lead. Tennessee got a run back in the top of the eighth when Wright doubled to right field to score pinch runner Abernathy J., who had reached on an error. But Oklahoma reliever Jackson Cleveland escaped further damage, and Tockey’s homer in the bottom half provided the final margin.
