NJIT edges Boston College 8‑7 in doubleheader opener
NEWTON, Mass. (Interstat) — Tade Riorden pitched 4.1 innings of one-run relief, allowing no hits and striking out two, as NJIT held off Boston College 8-7 in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at John Shea Field.
The Highlanders (16-28-1) jumped ahead early. Rowin O’Connor homered in the first, and Cole Campbell added a solo shot in the second. Sheehan O’Connor singled in a run later that inning for a three-run lead.
Boston College (36-17) answered in the third on a sacrifice fly, then scored three in the fourth — a Kyle Wolff homer, a Colin Larson RBI triple and a run-scoring groundout — to tie it.
NJIT regained control in the fifth. Campbell singled in a run, Levin singled in another, and Dillon Can crushed a three-run homer. The Eagles’ Ben Williams doubled in two in the bottom half, and a sixth-inning infield single made it 8-7, but Riorden and the bullpen held.
Can finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Campbell went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Boston College’s Cesar Gonzalez struck out four over 4.2 innings but took the loss.
