Fladda’s gem leads Arizona to 6‑0 shutout of BYU

TUCSON (Interstat) — Luc Fladda struck out 11 over 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and no earned runs, as Arizona blanked BYU 6-0 on Thursday. The Wildcats improved to 16-24 while the Cougars fell to 20-20.

Fladda, who had struggled against Kansas State on April 19, was dominant. Corey Kling tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Arizona scored two in the fourth on Beau Sylvester’s two-run single, then added a run in the fifth on a Danzeisen RBI single and another on a Nate Novitske RBI groundout. TJ Adams delivered a two-run single in the sixth. Sylvester and Adams each had two hits and two RBIs.

BYU starter Wayland Crane allowed three earned runs in five innings despite not allowing a hit, an unusual statistical line. Justis Reiser surrendered two earned runs in three innings. Luke Anderson went 2-for-4 for the Cougars, who managed seven hits but could not score.

The series continues Friday with the second game of the three-game set.
