Fairleigh Dickinson at Fordham

NEW YORK (Interstat) — Jeremy Delamota homered twice and drove in three runs, leading Fairleigh Dickinson to a wild 12-10 victory over Fordham in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Jim Houlihan Park at Jack Coffey Field.

The game, a high-scoring sequel to Fordham’s 23-17 win just 24 hours earlier, featured 26 combined hits and a dramatic shift in momentum that the Knights ultimately weathered behind a powerful offense and key late-inning relief.

Delamota, the Knights’ designated hitter, broke a scoreless tie with a solo homer to center field in the second inning. After Fordham erupted for nine runs across the third and fourth innings to seize a 9-2 lead, Delamota and the Knights’ lineup responded with a seven-run fifth to pull even.

The most important sequence of the game unfolded in that decisive top of the fifth. Trailing 9-2, Fairleigh Dickinson sent 10 men to the plate. The rally was capped by a two-run triple from Hunter Ray, who later scored on a Fordham error to tie the game. Johnathan Gomez had a two-run double earlier in the inning.

Delamota then delivered the decisive blow in the eighth inning, launching a solo home run to left field off Fordham reliever Berg to give Fairleigh Dickinson an 11-10 lead. It was his fourth hit of the night.

Ray finished with three hits, including a homer, and four RBIs for the Knights. Gomez added three hits and two RBIs. For Fordham, Tommy McAndrews hit a grand slam in the third inning during the Rams’ five-run outburst, and Caden Young drove in three runs.

The Knights’ bullpen trio of Jason DeMarco, Logan Magdits and Nick Noble sealed the win with five scoreless innings of relief. DeMarco allowed one inherited runner to score over two innings. Magdits worked 1 2/3 hitless frames, and Noble recorded the final four outs, stranding the potential tying runs on base in the eighth inning and working around a two-out single in the ninth for the save.

Fordham, which grounded into two double plays, left 12 runners on base.

The win improved Fairleigh Dickinson to 22-13 this season, while Fordham fell to 15-22. The result defied pregame projections from Interstat, whose simulator had predicted a 7-3 Knights win, though its ELO rating system gave Fordham a 60.8 percent probability to win.

Fairleigh Dickinson next plays at Hofstra on Wednesday. Fordham opens a series at La Salle on Friday.
