Maryland-Eastern Shore at Central Connecticut
Preview: Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks at Central Connecticut Blue Devils
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Interstat) — The Central Connecticut Blue Devils will look to complete a three-game series sweep when they host the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks in a Monday afternoon matchup on March 9, 2026.
The Blue Devils (3-2) have taken the first two games of the series, winning 11-7 on Saturday and 6-1 on Sunday. The Hawks (1-11) have lost nine straight games since their only win of the season on Feb. 28.
A key rematch on the mound is anticipated. Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Richard De Jesus, who started Sunday’s loss, is a player to watch. In that outing, the right-hander pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs despite not surrendering a hit, as control issues led to six walks. He has shown swing-and-miss ability, striking out 10 over his last 15 1/3 innings.
For Central Connecticut, Bryce DiPiero is expected to play a pivotal role after earning the win in relief on Sunday. DiPiero threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Over his last two appearances, he has not allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings of work.
The Blue Devils’ offense was powered Sunday by left fielder Antonio Ducatelli, who went 4 for 5 with three RBIs. Central Connecticut has outscored UMES 17-8 in the series so far.
The Hawks’ struggles have been pronounced during their losing streak, which includes a 20-11 loss to Siena and a series sweep at the hands of VMI. Their pitching staff has an 11.19 ERA over the last nine games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 victory for Central Connecticut.
Following Monday’s contest, the Hawks will return home to host Stonehill for a three-game series starting Friday. The Blue Devils will host Northeastern on Wednesday before hitting the road for a weekend series at Norfolk State.
