Walk-Off Homer Lifts Jayhawks Over Tommies in Wild Finish
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — Augusto Mungarrieta launched a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday, capping a dramatic comeback as Kansas rallied past Saint Thomas (Minn.) 9-8 at Kauffman Stadium.
The Jayhawks, now 10-4, trailed 8-2 after Owen Bond’s two-run homer for the Tommies in the sixth. Kansas chipped away with a three-run sixth before back-to-back solo shots from Jordan Bach and Tyson LeBlanc in the eighth made it 8-7.
Saint Thomas (1-11) added an insurance run in the ninth, but Mungarrieta connected with a runner on first to end it. LeBlanc finished 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs. The Tommies outhit Kansas 13-9 but stranded 10 runners.
