Cold Falcons, Bearcats Set for Midweek Clash at Schott Stadium
CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Bowling Green Falcons look to build on their first win of the season when they visit the Cincinnati Bearcats in a nonconference matchup Wednesday at Marge Schott Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. Game time temperature is expected to be near 36 degrees under cloudy skies.
The Falcons (1-3) snapped an 0-3 start with a 6-5 victory at Western Carolina on Saturday. Nate Kress provided five innings of hitless relief in that win, and Zack Horky went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs.
Bowling Green will need its offense to support a pitching staff that has allowed 25 runs in four games. A player to watch for the Falcons is Jackson Miller, who tossed 2 1/3 hitless innings with two strikeouts in a relief appearance on Feb. 21.
The Bearcats (5-3) enter with momentum after taking three of four games at UAB, including an 8-6 win Sunday. Cincinnati’s bullpen has been a strength, highlighted by Joel Pinerio. The right-hander has not allowed a hit over his last five innings across two appearances, striking out three.
Luke Sefcik drove in three runs in Sunday’s victory for Cincinnati, which begins a nine-game homestand with this contest.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Cincinnati 5, Bowling Green 2.
Following Wednesday’s game, Bowling Green travels to face Samford for a three-game series starting Friday. Cincinnati remains home to host Austin Peay for a three-game set beginning Friday.
