Maine at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Charlotte 49ers look to continue their winning momentum when they host the struggling Maine Black Bears in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday evening at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 41 degrees.

Charlotte (4-3) enters having won three of its last four, including a 9-2 victory over Wright State on Sunday. The 49ers’ offense has shown potency, scoring 24 runs in their last three games. A player to watch for the home team is right-hander Wesley Jones, who delivered a strong start in Sunday’s win, allowing one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts over five innings.

Maine (2-6) seeks to halt a three-game skid after dropping a weekend series at High Point. The Black Bears fell 10-7 on Sunday despite a home run and two RBIs from catcher Shane Andrus. The series in North Carolina has been a struggle, with Maine losing five of six games in the state this season, including earlier defeats at Duke.

The pitching matchup features a contrast. Maine will look to Vaun Larisa, who seeks redemption after a tough outing last Sunday against High Point where he was charged with six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Charlotte’s starter had not been announced as of Tuesday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 victory for Charlotte.

Following Wednesday’s contest, Charlotte opens a three-game series at Old Dominion on Friday. Maine continues its southern road trip with a three-game set at Winthrop beginning Friday.
