Saturday, May 16, 2026 · Final · ACC Playoffs Game 3 (CAL leads 2-1)

Stanford at California

BERKELEY, Calif. (Interstat) — Gavin Eddy pitched six innings of five-hit ball and Cade Campbell delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning as California defeated Stanford 2-1 on Saturday at Evans Diamond, clinching the Atlantic Coast Conference series.

The Golden Bears improved to 29-25 overall and 27-25 in league play. The Cardinal dropped to 27-25 and 25-27.

Stanford took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. With one out, Jimmy Sell tripled to right field. After a flyout, Teddy Tokheim lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Sell. The Cardinal had a chance to add more later in the inning when Charlie MacDonald singled, but a strikeout ended the threat.

California threatened in the bottom of the third when a pair of walks from Stanford starter Nick Dugan put two runners on, but a flyout to center field kept the Golden Bears off the board.

Dugan worked three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out four before being relieved by Ben Reimers. The Cardinal bullpen kept California in check for the next three innings, with Reimers, Cohen Gomez and Trevor Moore combining for four innings of one-hit ball, though Gomez was charged with both runs in the seventh.

Eddy, who came in after a dominant performance against Virginia on May 9 in which he threw seven innings of one-hit ball with 14 strikeouts, was nearly as effective Saturday. He scattered five hits, struck out five and walked two over six innings. His only blemish was the third-inning run.

The game turned in the bottom of the seventh. With Gomez on the mound, California’s Jake Kodama led off with a double to left center. Matt Snyder followed with a bunt single, advancing Kodama to third. Moore then relieved Gomez. After a fielder’s choice that cut down Kodama at the plate, a strikeout left runners at first and second with two outs. But Lucas Murillo singled to left to load the bases, and Campbell lined a single to center field, scoring Snyder and pinch-runner Chris Prather to give California a 2-1 lead.

Cole Clark relieved Eddy in the seventh and worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. Ethan Foley closed the ninth with a perfect inning, striking out one.

Stanford’s final threat came in the top of the fifth when Lavin walked and Tokheim doubled, putting runners at second and third with two outs, but a lineout ended the inning. The Cardinal managed only six hits on the day and left five runners on base.

Teddy Tokheim had two hits and drove in the game’s first run for Stanford. Cohen Gomez took the loss, allowing two earned runs in two innings. Mike Erspamer struck out three in a perfect eighth inning for Stanford.

The series opened Thursday with Stanford winning 7-6, and California evened the series Friday with a 4-3 victory. Saturday’s win gave the Golden Bears their second straight series victory after taking two of three at Virginia last weekend.

California will look to build momentum as the regular season winds down. Stanford has lost three of its last four games.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Stanford 6, California 5, and Interstat’s ELO system gave Stanford a 51.40 percent probability to win before the game.
