Missouri at Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Longhorns look to complete a series sweep Saturday afternoon when they host the Missouri Tigers at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Texas (38-12 overall, SEC) has won the first two games of the weekend set, taking an 11-6 decision Friday after a 6-3 victory Thursday. The Longhorns enter with an 82.4 percent win probability, according to Interstat’s ELO system, and the simulator projects a 7-2 final score.

Missouri (22-28) is seeking its first win of the series. The Tigers have lost four straight and seven of their last eight, including a three-game sweep at Georgia earlier this month.

Right-hander Dylan Volantis is a key figure for Texas. The Longhorns’ pitcher earned the win Thursday against Missouri, allowing one earned run on two hits with 11 strikeouts over seven innings. In his last four starts, Volantis has posted a 1.69 ERA over 24 innings, striking out 36. He also threw six scoreless innings against Mississippi State on May 1 and held Vanderbilt to one run over six innings on April 24.

For Missouri, right-hander Josh McDevitt will be a player to watch. McDevitt took the loss Thursday, giving up one earned run on no hits with three strikeouts over three innings. In his previous start at Georgia on May 1, he allowed one earned run over 6⅓ innings with six strikeouts. Against Arkansas on April 23, he struck out 11 in 6⅓ innings while allowing three earned runs.

The Tigers’ offense was led Thursday by first baseman Jase Woita, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Reliever Eli Skidmore tossed 1⅓ scoreless innings.

Texas third baseman Casey Borba went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs in Thursday’s win. Samuel Cozart struck out three over a perfect inning of relief.

Weather conditions for Saturday’s first pitch are forecast at 89 degrees with clouds.

Missouri has struggled on the road, where it is 8-16 away from Columbia. Texas is 25-5 at home this season.

The Longhorns are coming off a series win at Tennessee and have won six of their last seven. Missouri has not won a series since taking two of three at home against Arkansas in late April.
