Northeastern at Towson

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — The Northeastern Huskies and Towson Tigers meet Saturday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Baseball Complex in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.

First pitch is scheduled under cloudy skies with a temperature of 66 degrees.

Northeastern (34-18) enters with a 86.30 percent win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, which projects an 8-4 final score in favor of the Huskies. Northeastern has won nine of its last 10 games, including an 8-7 victory over Towson on Friday and a 7-0 shutout Thursday in the opening two games of this series.

The Huskies are led by designated hitter Matt Brinker, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in Friday’s win. Over his last 10 games, Brinker has hit safely in eight, posting multi-hit performances in six of those contests. He drove in three runs in a 15-0 win over Stony Brook on May 9 and had four RBIs in a 12-3 victory the previous day.

Towson (20-32) has dropped five of its last six games. The Tigers’ offense is sparked by right fielder Brady Nathison, who went 2 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in Friday’s one-run loss. Nathison also homered in a 9-8 win over UMBC on May 12 and has driven in multiple runs in two of his last four games.

The Tigers’ pitching staff has struggled, allowing 13 runs over the past two games against Northeastern. Towson’s bullpen coverage Friday included Joey Tuttoilmondo (5 1/3 innings, six hits, three earned runs, two strikeouts) and Vincent Salvo (3 2/3 innings, three hits, three earned runs).

Northeastern’s bullpen was effective Friday as relievers Andrew Rogovic (2 2/3 innings, no hits, no earned runs, four strikeouts) and Cooper Maher (2 2/3 innings, no hits, two earned runs) combined to hold Towson scoreless through the middle frames.

The series concludes Saturday with Northeastern seeking its third consecutive win. The teams have met five times this season, with Northeastern winning four: 8-7, 7-0, 3-2, 3-1 and losing 6-3 in the March 13 opener.

Northeastern’s lineup has produced 10 or more runs in four of its last seven games. Towson has scored eight or more runs only once in its past 10 outings, a 9-8 win on May 12.

The Huskies’ recent schedule included a 10-6 win at Connecticut on May 12 and a three-game sweep of Stony Brook from May 8-10. Towson’s last series win came May 8-10 at William & Mary, where the Tigers took two of three, including a 15-3 victory on May 8.
