Lutz dominates as Dukes top Monarchs 7‑3 in Sun Belt
NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — Tyler Lutz pitched eight innings, allowing three earned runs on no hits with two strikeouts to lead James Madison to a 7-3 win over Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. The Dukes (21-31) avoided a series sweep after dropping the first two games. Lutz, rebounding from a rough outing, was backed by early run support. Kyle Langley hit a two-run homer in the third inning, Jack Guerrero drove in three runs and Clay Thompson went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Reece Moody added three hits and an RBI for James Madison, which collected 11 hits. Old Dominion (29-25) scored in the fifth on a fielder’s choice and in the eighth on Will Johnson’s solo homer and a run-scoring single. Nick Sulpizio struck out five over three scoreless innings for the Monarchs, who had 10 hits. The Sun Belt series finale was played in front of a festive crowd.
