NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — The James Madison Dukes and Old Dominion Monarchs close their Sun Belt series Saturday evening at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, with first pitch set for a game-time temperature of 66 degrees under cloudy skies.

Old Dominion (29-24) enters with momentum after a 10-0 win Friday and a 5-1 victory Thursday, securing the series. The Monarchs have won four of their last five and sit above .500. James Madison (20-31) has dropped eight straight and 10 of its last 11.

Right-hander J.J. Gatti, who earned the win Friday with five scoreless innings of three-hit ball and six strikeouts, is a key figure for the Monarchs. Over his last two starts, Gatti has 12 strikeouts in nine innings, allowing three runs.

For James Madison, right-hander Griffin Madden has struggled. In Friday’s loss, he worked 2 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on no hits with three strikeouts. Over his last five appearances, Madden has a 9.69 ERA across 9 1/3 innings, surrendering 11 earned runs.

The Dukes’ offense managed one run over the first two games of the series. James Madison’s last win came May 3 against Marshall, and the team has lost 14 of its last 16 Sun Belt contests.

Old Dominion’s lineup flexed its power Friday, paced by left fielder TJ Aiken, who homered and drove in four runs, and first baseman Zach Leite, who had two hits and three RBIs.

Saturday’s game is the series finale. Interstat’s game simulator projects an Old Dominion 7-3 victory.
