CINCINNATI, Ohio (Interstat) — Evan Vasiliou pitched five strong innings as Xavier defeated Creighton 5-3 Saturday afternoon at Marge Schott Stadium in a Big East matchup.

Vasiliou allowed one hit and one earned run while striking out four to earn the win. Creighton struck first in the top of the first when Isaac Wachsmann homered to left center. The Bluejays led 1-0 until the bottom of the third, when Xavier took advantage of a fielding error and two wild pitches to plate four unearned runs. The Musketeers added another run on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Creighton’s bullpen held Xavier scoreless over the final five innings, with Brian Gould and Shea Wendt each tossing two hitless frames. In the ninth, Fuchino singled home two runs to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Xavier’s Joseph Arend closed out the game.

The win improved Xavier to 27-28 overall, while Creighton fell to 29-24. The Musketeers won the series two games to one.
