MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Interstat) — Will Tippett went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead College of Charleston to a 12-2 victory over William & Mary on Saturday afternoon at CofC Baseball Stadium at Patriot’s Point, completing a three-game sweep in Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Cougars pounded out 14 hits and took control with a four-run third inning, then added six more in the fourth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule after seven innings. Tippett, who homered in the fourth and also doubled, continued a torrid series after driving in four runs Friday and collecting two hits Thursday. He finished the three-game set 6 for 8 with two homers and seven RBIs.

College of Charleston improved to 28-26 overall, while William & Mary fell to 21-32.

The Tribe struck first in the opening inning. After Luke Laskofski walked, Sam Kaczmarek homered down the left-field line for a two-run lead. Kaczmarek went 3 for 3 with a double and a walk, accounting for the only William & Mary runs and three of its seven hits. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the second. Ethan Plyler singled, and Braeden Smith doubled to put runners at second and third. Nick Diaz grounded out to drive in Plyler, and Cole Penfield’s sacrifice fly scored Smith to tie the game at 2.

William & Mary retook the lead briefly in the top of the third. Laskofski singled, Kaczmarek doubled, and Joe Kosuda’s groundout brought home Laskofski to make it 3-2. But the lead did not last.

In the bottom of the third, the Cougars used a Tribe error to ignite a four-run outburst. With one out, Johnson reached on a fielding error by shortstop Laskofski. A single by LaCoste and an RBI single by Plyler put College of Charleston ahead 3-2. After Smith flied out, Diaz crushed a three-run homer to left field, scoring LaCoste and Plyler to make it 6-2. Tippett followed with a double, but the inning ended with a groundout.

The Cougars blew the game open in the fourth. Smith launched a three-run homer to left after Plyler singled and LaCoste walked, stretching the lead to 9-2. Diaz singled, and after a pitching change, Penfield singled. Tippett then deposited a three-run homer to left field, scoring Diaz and Penfield to push the margin to 12-2.

College of Charleston’s bullpen shut down William & Mary from there. Ryan Hench pitched two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out one. Kaden Myers followed with 1 2/3 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief. Carson Bryant worked three innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs. For the Tribe, Tom Bourque took the loss after allowing two earned runs in 2 1/3 innings, while Owen Pierce surrendered two runs in two innings.

Tippett’s three-hit performance led a balanced Cougars attack. Smith finished 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs. Diaz went 2 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs. Plyler added three hits and an RBI. Kaczmarek was the lone bright spot for William & Mary, reaching base four times.

The game was the third meeting of the week between the teams. College of Charleston won 9-2 on Thursday and 8-5 on Friday, completing a six-game season sweep after also taking three of four from William & Mary in Williamsburg in April. The Tribe lost for the fifth time in six games overall.
