Notre Dame explodes for 21 runs, routs Pittsburgh 21‑10
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Interstat) — Notre Dame’s offense erupted for 21 runs on 22 hits Saturday afternoon at Petersen Sports Complex, overpowering Pittsburgh 21-10 in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. The Fightin’ Irish (30-21) won the series two games to one after dropping the opener Thursday.
Center fielder Drew Berkland homered twice, including a two-run shot in the second inning and another two-run blast in the sixth. Catcher Mark Quatrani had four hits — a double, two singles and a two-run homer. Right fielder Jayce Lee homered twice, first baseman Dylan Passo hit a three-run homer in the first and second baseman Jamie Zee added a three-run homer in the sixth.
Pittsburgh (30-23) got two homers from Lorenzo Carrier, including a two-run blast in the sixth. Joey Baran also homered. But the Panthers’ nine hits were not enough to overcome Notre Dame’s relentless attack, which built a 21-5 lead after the top of the sixth.
