Alabama blanks Vanderbilt behind Adams’ dominant outing

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — Zane Adams pitched six innings of eight-hit shutout ball as Alabama blanked Vanderbilt 5-0 on Friday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Adams struck out six and allowed no earned runs, improving his record after a rocky outing at Tennessee. The Crimson Tide improved to 31-16, while the Commodores fell to 27-21.

Alabama scored all five runs in the first three innings. Eric Hines launched a two-run homer to right center in the first, and John Lemm followed with a solo shot. In the third, Hines singled home another run, and a bases-loaded walk to Torres pushed the lead to 5-0. Hines finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Vanderbilt starter Brennan Seiber threw 5.2 innings without allowing a hit, striking out three, but left with a deficit. Ashton Crowther earned a three-inning save, allowing one hit and striking out two. Logan Johnstone led Vanderbilt with three hits, and Rustan Rigdon added two.

The Crimson Tide defense turned two double plays. The series continues Saturday.
