Boston College at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (Interstat) — Boston College and Notre Dame close their three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series Sunday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium with the Eagles looking to build on a 16-1 rout Saturday that evened the series at one win apiece.

Boston College (32-14) is in control of its postseason positioning after dropping Friday’s opener 12-2 in seven innings before exploding Saturday. The Eagles’ offense, which has scored at least eight runs in seven of their last 10 games, faces a Notre Dame pitching staff that has allowed 28 runs over the first two games of the series.

Notre Dame (19-19) has been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over its last six games. The Fighting Irish have a losing record in ACC play and are trying to stay afloat in the conference standings with a favorable homestand ahead.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 59 degrees.

Players to watch

Boston College designated hitter Kyle Wolff was the catalyst in Saturday’s win, going 2 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs. The junior has been streaky: he went hitless in his previous three games but has driven in six runs over his last two contests. Wolff is batting .289 with nine homers and 38 RBIs on the season.

Notre Dame right-hander Caden Crowell will likely be called upon in relief after an uneven stretch. The sophomore has a 6.23 ERA over his last four appearances, though he struck out six in 2 2/3 innings Saturday despite allowing two earned runs. Crowell has been effective when he limits damage — he tossed three scoreless innings against Michigan State on April 22.

Series notes

The split sets up a rubber match. Saturday’s game ended in eight innings because of the ACC’s run rule. Brady Miller earned the win, throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Julio Solier added four hits and three RBIs for the Eagles.

Projections

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Boston College victory, though the site’s ELO system gives Notre Dame a 56.7 percent chance to win.
