Northeastern at Towson

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — Northeastern’s Jack Brinker crushed a solo home run to left field with one out in the top of the ninth inning, lifting the Huskies to an 8-7 victory over Towson on Friday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Baseball Complex.

The win improved Northeastern to 34-18 overall and snapped a one-game losing streak after the Huskies were shut out 7-0 by the Tigers on Thursday. Towson fell to 20-32.

Brinker’s homer capped a back-and-forth affair that featured five lead changes. He finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs, including a two-run single in the sixth inning that had already helped the Huskies regain the lead.

Towson’s Brady Nathison also homered, a two-run shot in the seventh that tied the game at 5 before the Tigers took a 7-5 lead. Nathison went 2 for 5 with four RBIs.

Northeastern struck first in the third inning. A double by DiGiorgio and an RBI double by Feinberg gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Feinberg scored on a fielding error by Towson third baseman Frank Adamski Jr. to make it 2-0.

The Huskies added two more in the fourth. A single by Musacchia drove in Aschettino, and a throwing error by Adamski allowed Musacchia to score, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Towson answered in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run outburst. A bases-loaded walk to Nich Francuzenko forced in the Tigers’ first run. Yariel Rodriguez followed with a two-run single to right field, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Nathison then delivered a two-run single down the right-field line, giving Towson a 5-4 lead.

Northeastern tied the game in the sixth. With runners on first and second, Gerety singled to right to score DiGiorgio. Brinker followed with a two-run single to center that scored Gerety and Harmony, putting the Huskies ahead 7-5. Brinker advanced to second on a throwing error by Towson first baseman Josh Janove but was stranded.

Towson responded again in the seventh. Nick LoBello singled to right-center, and Nathison crushed a home run to left field, his fourth of the season, knotting the game at 7. The Tigers could not add more, as reliever Rogovic struck out Max D’Alessandro and Frank Adamski Jr. to end the inning.

The game remained tied until the top of the ninth. Brinker stepped to the plate against Towson reliever Vincent Salvo and launched a solo homer to left field, his seventh of the season, giving the Huskies an 8-7 lead.

Towson threatened in the bottom of the ninth. LoBello walked and stole second. After Nathison fouled out, AJ Kolb flied out to center. The Tigers intentionally walked catcher Brian Heckelman, prompting a pinch runner, Cole Stefano. But D’Alessandro struck out swinging to end the game.

Northeastern starter Rising was pulled after four innings, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Maher earned the win in relief, tossing three innings and giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Rogovic recorded the final two outs for the save.

Joey Tuttoilmondo started for Towson, allowing six hits and three earned runs over five and one-third innings with two strikeouts. Salvo took the loss, giving up three hits and three runs in three and two-thirds innings.

The teams conclude their three-game series Saturday. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Northeastern 8, Towson 5. Interstatl’s ELO system had projected Northeastern with an 86.10 percent probability to win.
