Northeastern at Towson
TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — Northeastern looks to continue its dominance over Towson when the Huskies visit the Tigers on Friday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Baseball Complex in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
Northeastern (33-18) has won four straight against Towson (20-31), including a 7-0 shutout Thursday in which right-hander Robbie O’Connor threw a nine-inning no-hitter. O’Connor struck out two and did not allow a hit or a run. The reigning CAA Pitcher of the Week has been nearly untouchable in his last three starts: he went six innings with five hits and no earned runs against Hofstra on April 24, tossed five no-hit innings at North Carolina A&T on April 17, and allowed three earned runs in five innings against Stony Brook on May 8.
Towson starter Ryder Jeske takes the mound after a rough outing Thursday, when he gave up one earned run on two hits in 3⅔ innings in the loss to Northeastern. Jeske has struggled with command this season, issuing five earned runs in three innings at Villanova on May 6 and six earned runs in 2⅔ innings at William & Mary on May 10. However, he tossed 3⅔ scoreless innings against Stony Brook on April 25 and allowed just two hits in that appearance.
The Tigers have lost five of their last six games, including a 9-8 walk-off win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday. Towson’s offense, led by outfielder Keldrin Rodriguez who went 2-for-3 Thursday, will need to generate runs against a Northeastern pitching staff that has held opponents to two or fewer runs in four of its last five games.
The Huskies have won 10 of their last 12, including three straight over Stony Brook last weekend and a 10-6 win at Connecticut on Tuesday. Second baseman Charlie Criscola homered and drove in two runs Thursday, while right fielder Carmelo Musacchia added two hits and an RBI.
The weather forecast calls for 59 degrees and cloudy skies at first pitch.
Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-5 Northeastern victory.
Both teams are scheduled to play again Saturday at the same venue.
