Hofstra at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — Hofstra visits Stony Brook for a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader Friday afternoon and evening at Joe Nathan Field, with the forecast calling for 59-degree temperatures and rain.

The Pride (19-25) and Seawolves (20-29) meet for the second time in as many days. Hofstra blanked Stony Brook 4-0 on Thursday behind a dominant pitching performance from right-hander Carlos Martinez, who threw 8.1 no-hit innings with seven strikeouts.

Martinez, a Hofstra player to watch, has been outstanding in his past five starts. He threw a complete-game victory against Monmouth on May 8 (7-3) and a 6.2-inning, 15-strikeout win at UNC Wilmington on April 17.

Stony Brook counters with Hunter Colagrande, a right-hander who took the loss Thursday, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over five innings. Colagrande has struggled recently, allowing five earned runs in 1.2 innings at Towson on April 24.

The Seawolves have dropped four of their past five games, including a 15-0 loss at Northeastern on Saturday. Stony Brook’s offense managed only four hits in Thursday’s shutout.

Hofstra, which won two of three against Towson last weekend, split its four-game season series with Stony Brook. The Seawolves won the first three meetings April 10-12 before the Pride’s Thursday victory.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Stony Brook win.

The teams conclude the series with a single game Saturday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
