Oregon at UCLA

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — UCLA and Oregon conclude a three-game Big Ten series Sunday with a rare afternoon-evening doubleheader at Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

The top-ranked Bruins (45-4, 13-2 Big Ten) bring the nation’s best record into the twin bill after routing the Ducks 11-1 on Friday. Saturday’s game ended in a 5-5 tie, leaving UCLA tied atop the conference standings. Oregon (35-13, 10-5) sits two games back in the loss column.

UCLA right-hander Wylan Moss is expected to start one of Sunday’s games. Moss (4-0, 1.56 ERA) struck out nine over seven innings of three-hit ball Friday, allowing one run. The junior has allowed one earned run in 13 2/3 innings over his last two starts, with 17 strikeouts. His performance Friday included a 1-0 lead after the first inning behind Mulivai Levu’s two-run homer and Payton Brennan’s solo shot.

Oregon will counter with reliever Jonah Barkoff. After Friday’s blowout, Barkoff threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. The right-hander has not allowed a hit or an earned run in his last three outings (3 innings, 5 strikeouts). Oregon pitchers combined to allow 11 runs on 12 hits Friday, with starter Will Sanford taking the loss after allowing five earned runs in three innings.

The Ducks have won seven of their last 10, but Friday’s loss snapped a three-game winning streak. UCLA has won nine of 10, with the only loss coming May 3 at Michigan State.

Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-7 Oregon win, but the ELO system gives UCLA a 59.7% probability of victory.

First pitch for the afternoon game is scheduled for 1 p.m. The evening game follows at approximately 6 p.m. The forecast calls for 70 degrees and cloudy.

Oregon opens a home series against Southern California on May 14. UCLA travels to Washington the same day.
