George Washington at Richmond

RICHMOND (Interstat) — Jackson Hinchliffe pitched 6 2/3 strong innings and the Richmond Spiders erupted for five runs in the first inning Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of George Washington with a 13-1 victory in Atlantic 10 Conference play at Malcolm U. Pitt Field.

Richmond, which improved to 30-21 overall and won its fourth consecutive game, outhit the Revolutionaries 14-4. George Washington fell to 18-32.

The Spiders sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first. After a walk and a single, Dylan Winebrenner flied out but drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly. RJ Rickabaugh followed with a three-run homer to deep center field, and Ryan Recio added a solo shot to left field. The inning ended with Richmond leading 5-0, a margin that proved insurmountable.

Hinchliffe allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out five. He retired the side in order in the second and third innings and did not allow a George Washington hit until the fourth. The right‑hander left after giving up a solo home run to Tufano in the seventh, his only blemish. Kellan Heney recorded the final out of the seventh.

Recio finished 3 for 4 with a double and a home run, driving in two runs. Aidan O’Keefe went 2 for 3 with a two-run homer in the third that extended the lead to 9-1. Rickabaugh drove in three runs on his first‑inning blast. Michael Elko went 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI. Winebrenner had two hits and two RBIs.

Richmond added two more runs in the second on a stolen base, a throwing error and a single by Winebrenner, then piled on four runs in the fourth, including an RBI triple by Elko and a run‑scoring single by Winebrenner. The Spiders grounded into two double plays, but by then the outcome was long decided.

George Washington’s only run came in the seventh inning when Tufano homered to deep center. The Revolutionaries managed just three other hits and struck out eight times.

Richmond had taken the first two games of the series, 8-5 on Friday and 10-6 in 11 innings Saturday. The Spiders next travel to Virginia on Tuesday before a three‑game series at Saint Louis. George Washington returns home for three games against Dayton beginning Thursday.

Interstat’s game simulator projected a final score of Richmond 7, George Washington 2, and its ELO system gave the Spiders a 69 percent probability to win.
