George Washington at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders look to sweep a three-game Atlantic 10 series Sunday afternoon against the George Washington Revolutionaries at Malcolm U. Pitt Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 73 degrees.

Richmond (29-21, 12-8 Atlantic 10) has won the first two games of the series, including a 10-6 victory in 11 innings Saturday. The Spiders have won four of their last five games. George Washington (18-31, 8-12) has lost five of six.

A key figure in Saturday’s win was Richmond’s Evan Wilson, who entered as a pinch hitter and went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs. Wilson has been productive over his last 10 games, including a 3-for-4, two-RBI performance April 19 against Dayton.

The Revolutionaries will turn to right-hander Declan Wywoda, who took the loss Saturday despite allowing no hits over 5 1/3 innings. Wywoda surrendered four earned runs with three strikeouts and struggled with control. He has lost his last three decisions and has allowed at least three earned runs in four of his last five outings.

Richmond has not announced a starting pitcher.

The Spiders took Friday’s series opener 8-5. Richmond’s RJ Johnson Jr. had four RBIs in Saturday’s game, and Joey Giordano earned the win with six innings of one-run ball.

George Washington’s Robbie Lavey homered and drove in two runs Saturday. The Revolutionaries are in last place in the Atlantic 10 standings.

An Interstat game simulator projects a 7-2 Richmond victory.

Following Sunday’s game, Richmond travels to Virginia on Tuesday, then opens a four-game road series at Saint Louis on Wednesday. George Washington hosts Dayton for a three-game series beginning Thursday.
