Hawaii at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. (Interstat) — The Hawaii Warriors and UC Davis Aggies close a three-game Big West series Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Baseball Complex, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. under clear skies and 65-degree temperatures. The series is tied 1-1 after UC Davis rebounded from a Friday loss with a shutout victory Saturday.

Hawaii (16-16 overall) seeks to take the series behind right-hander Isaiah Magdaleno, who delivered a dominant performance Friday in a 4-1 win over the Aggies. Magdaleno threw eight innings, allowing one earned run on zero hits while striking out nine. He has been erratic this season, however, posting a 2.1-inning, six-earned-run outing against Oregon State on April 24 after a solid five-inning, one-earned-run start against Cal State Bakersfield on April 17.

UC Davis (24-25) counters with right-hander Mason Lerma, who took the loss Friday despite a solid four-inning relief appearance, giving up one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts. Lerma has been a reliable bullpen arm, allowing two or fewer earned runs in nine of his last 10 outings, including a scoreless inning at Fresno State on April 20 and two shutout innings against Long Beach State on April 24.

The Aggies enter on a strong run, having won five of their last seven games. After the Friday loss, UC Davis bounced back Saturday to even the series. The Aggies’ offense will look to solve Magdaleno, who has shown the ability to dominate but also struggles with command at times.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-3 UC Davis victory, suggesting the Aggies’ depth and recent momentum could prove decisive.

Following Sunday’s game, Hawaii returns home to host Cal State Northridge on May 17. UC Davis remains home to face California Baptist in a three-game series beginning Wednesday.
