Towson at William & Mary
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The William & Mary Tribe will look to build momentum against a struggling Towson Tigers squad in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup Friday at Plumeri Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a forecast of 54 degrees and rain.
William & Mary (20-26) and Towson (17-29) enter the series on divergent paths. The Tribe dropped a wild 15-14 decision to George Mason on Tuesday, a game in which catcher Witt Scafidi went 3-for-6 with four RBIs. The Tigers, meanwhile, were routed 14-1 by Villanova on Wednesday, their 10th loss in their last 12 games.
Players to watch include Towson pitcher Joey Tuttoilmondo and William & Mary catcher Scafidi.
Tuttoilmondo, a right-handed pitcher, tossed a scoreless inning against Villanova on Wednesday, allowing no hits. In his last seven appearances, however, he has allowed 11 earned runs over 10 innings, including a rocky 3.1-inning outing against Stony Brook on April 24 in which he surrendered five hits and four earned runs.
Scafidi has been a consistent force at the plate. Over his last 10 games, the catcher has recorded multiple hits five times, including a 3-for-5 performance with a home run and three RBIs against College of Charleston on April 17. He also drove in five runs in a 21-7 win at North Carolina A&T on April 25.
The Tribe have won four of their last six games, while Towson has lost six straight, including three games by a combined 34-6 margin against Hofstra.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 William & Mary victory.
The teams will continue the three-game series Saturday and Sunday in Williamsburg.
